Pantalone is old Venetian merchant, rich and a little eccentric. "Old", however, did not mean having one foot in the grave. He has great vitality both in business and in the astute handling of family matter. In spite of his age, he is still capable of making advances to a women.

     Pantalone is dressed in tights red trousers (which have received the name "pantalons" from this character in French) and short red jacket with a stagnant collar. The black raincoat and red cap supplement his costume. His face has hooked nose, beetling grey-haired eyebrows and curious pointed beard , which he wood keep stroking.
